The first soccer match in Brazil was attended by 15 spectators: four family members plus 11 tennis players who were there by accident.
Today, soccer is Brazil’s most popular sport and a key part of the nation’s identity. Their national soccer team has won the World Cup five times, more than any other country.
Recovery works the same way. We start small, looking for wins wherever we can find them. Before long, we gain traction, sobriety, and chips. We are on our way.
An old Chinese proverb says, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” Peter Marshall added, “Small deeds done are better than great deeds planned.”
In the ancient book of Job, we read, “Your beginnings will seem humble, so prosperous will your future be” (Job 8:7).
Recovery Step: The best time to get sober was 25 years ago. The next best time is right now. What are you waiting for?
