The first traffic ticket was issued on this date in . . . 1899.
You read that right. Taxi driver Jacob German was speeding down Lexington Street in New York City in his Electrobat (fully electric vehicle) at an astounding 12 miles per hour in an eight mph zone. The bicycle officer who pulled him over arrested him and threw him in jail.
We have been speeding ever since. Each year, 41 million Americans are given tickets for speeding. That’s 112,000 per day. Speeding contributes to nearly 10,000 deaths and $41 billion in physical damage per year.
And in case you were wondering, the fastest drivers in America are in Texas, where posted speed limits are as high as 85 mph.
Jesus is an advocate for slowing down. He said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).
Recovery Step: Get out of the fast lane. Slow down and accept His rest.
