There are two kinds of people in the world – those who enter a crowded room thinking, “Here I am!” And those who enter a room thinking, “Here you are!”
Which person are you?
This matters because our recovery is never complete until we help someone else with their recovery. We must learn to shift our focus from ourselves to others.
I love the approach of Francis Schaeffer. He said, “If I have only an hour to spend with someone, I spend the first 55 minutes asking questions and finding out what it troubling them. Then I spend the last five minutes offering solutions.”
That is so biblical. That is following the Lord’s command – “Be quick to listen” (James 1:19).
In order to take your recovery to the next level, you need to be others-focused. Look for ways to help someone else grow in their recovery.
