Never underestimate the loudness of a whisper.
C.S. Lewis wrote, “It comes the very moment you wake up each morning. All your wishes and hopes for the day rush at you like wild animals. And the first job each morning consists simply in shoving them all back; in listening to that other voice, taking that other point of view, letting that other larger, stronger, quieter life come flowing in.”
There are eleven separate instances of a whisper throughout Scripture. God spoke to Elijah in a whisper (1 Kings 19:12). Isaiah said God speaks from a whisper in the dust (Isaiah 29:4). Jesus said to proclaim to others what the Spirit whispers in private (Matthew 10:27).
And here’s one you may not have known: “He hushed the storm to a gentle whisper, so that the waves of the sea were still” (Psalm 107:29).
Recovery Step: Draw close enough to God today, that you can hear him when he whispers.
