Mark and Beth Denison, married for 36 years, launched There’s Still Hope as a national movement to call men and women into lives of sexual integrity. Their ministry offers 90-day recovery plans for addicts and one-on-one and group coaching for addicts and their spouses. TSH also produces resources for pastors and churches to confront the porn epidemic that is destroying so many lives. Dr. Denison was a senior pastor for over 30 years, NBA chaplain, and board chairman at Houston Baptist University three times. With a Master’s Degree in Addiction Recovery, Mark is a certified PSAP and active member of the American Association of Christian Counselors. Mark has written four books on recovery: Porn in the Pew, 365 Days to Sexual Integrity, A 90-Day Recovery Guide, and 40 Days to Porn-Free Living. His latest book, Jesus on the 12 Steps, will be released later this year.

Bicycle Face

Most things we fear never actually come to pass. For example, in the late 19th century, doctors warned women about a new disease called bicycle face. The theory was that when a woman rode a bicycle for an extended time, the facial expression they held throughout the ride would become permanent – flushed face, bulging…

Why We Do It

Are sex addicts the only people who bring trauma to the lives of those they love? Tony Campolo offered the following perspective: “Each of us comes into the world with a predisposition to inflict pain on those who love us the most.” This is confirmed by Scripture. “All have sinned and fallen short of the…

Desires

The word for today is – desire.  The Bible begins with a cautionary tale – before Adam ate the fruit, the fruit had eaten Adam. He was eaten up with desire.  Psychiatrist and philosopher Dr. Neel Burton says the problem with desires is perception. We desire more things (including sex) when we perceive we don’t…

The Learning Pyramid offers some great wisdom for how to do successful recovery. Developed by educational theorist Edgar Dale, the conclusion is that people learn more effectively when they participate in the learning process. The first four layers of the pyramid are passive learning. In order from least effective to most effective, they are: lecture,…

Real vs Rule

The Three Mile Island event took place 45 years ago today. On March 28, 1979, a pressure valve in the Unit 2 reactor at Three Mile Island in Pennsylvania failed to close, triggering the worst accident in the history of the U.S. nuclear power industry. Although the accident at Three Mile Island had minuscule health…

There Really Was a Dracula

Dracula was a real dude. He lived from 1431 to 1476, when he died at the age of 45. Dracula was a prince of a small country called Wallachia, in what is now southern Romania. He was famous for resisting Ottoman Turkish invasions and for his incredible cruelty. However, there is no evidence that Dracula…
